Echo Global Logistics

1 voice across every ESG report since 2021

Echo Global Logistics is a technology-enabled transportation and supply chain management provider. We’ve worked with Echo since 2010, through its years as a public company, its 2021 transition to private ownership and acquisitions along the way.

When Echo launched its ESG reporting program in 2021, the company brought the project to us. Since then, we’ve helped Echo produce each annual edition while keeping its voice consistent across contributors, leadership changes and complex content.

Challenges

1.

Complex reporting has to earn readers’ attention.

As a privately held company, Echo produces its ESG report for customers, carriers, employees and prospective hires. Each audience needs different information from the report, so dense material must be easy to navigate and understand.

2.

An 10- to 11-week timeline leaves no room for a linear process.

Waiting for all the writing to finish before editing begins, then completing edits before design starts would use valuable time in an already-compressed schedule.

3.

Multiple internal reviewers sign off on every section.

The process must accommodate multiple review rounds while keeping editing and design moving.

Solution

We edit sections as Echo completes them and move approved content into design while writing and review continue. Running those workstreams concurrently has consistently created at least a week of breathing room within the 10- to 11-week timeline.

Ownership changes. Marketing leadership changes. We’ve worked with several of Echo’s marketing leaders over the years, with the relationship continuing through each transition. We know Echo’s voice well enough to keep it consistent across contributors, so a report many people wrote still sounds like Echo.

Design helps readers absorb dense information. Charts, graphics and page layouts organize emissions data, workforce metrics and program results while giving Echo’s accomplishments the prominence they deserve.

Results

1.

1 report serves multiple audiences.

Customers, carriers, employees and prospective hires can navigate the same report to find the ESG information that matters to them.

2.

At least 1 week of breathing room built into the schedule.

Running editing and design concurrently creates additional room for writing and review within a compressed timeline.

3.

Echo has returned to us for every ESG report.

The relationship has continued through every annual edition since Echo launched its ESG reporting program in 2021.

Bonus: Echo's experts don’t have to do it all.

They contribute their expertise and write the source content. We handle editing and design, keeping those responsibilities off their plates.
